Aporto, a project by Inés Marugán

October 5 2020

Inés Marugán, IADE Fashion and Interiors alumni since 1991, launches her personal pictorial adventure: APORTO

Multifaceted and with a curious and adventurous spirit. Inés Marugán has explored different areas of design: from the world of fashion, interior and graphic design to marketing and commercial management. But if there has been one constant that has always remained throughout her career, it has been her passion for aesthetics and beauty. APORTO is based on this guide.

Always in continuous learning

IADE: How did you get to know IADE, and what encouraged you to study with us?
Inés Marugán: When I finished high school I was hesitating between studying Archaeology or focusing my studies towards the design sector.

Since my childhood, I always liked to do different things and make all kinds of works in which my hands acquired prominence.

Finally, I was encouraged to train in the field of fashion design, and I began my studies at IADE because of its good reputation. Later, I felt the need to deepen and explore new fields and decided to expand my studies in the field of interior design.

I remember my time at IADE with special affection. I would highlight the closeness of the faculty to the students, getting the best out of each one of us. The level of demand is very high, providing a continuous challenge for students and a desire to try to take them further.

IADE: What did you do after finishing your studies with us and before starting your personal project: Aporto?
Inés Marugán: During all these years I have lived a multitude of personal and professional experiences that have brought me here, and have encouraged me to embark on this entrepreneurial project.

When I finished my training, I worked as a freelance in the interior design, graphic design and fashion sectors. I created a men's fashion brand and even worked for several advertising companies.

In 2000, I started at Corte Ingles, in the department of Crear - Hogar, where I carried out a wide range of tasks, from the realization and coordination of decoration projects to the selection of new collections for the department's exhibitions, or furniture design for the new collections in store, in close relationship with the firms.

In parallel, I continued my training; I took a course in commercial window dressing and even a Master's degree in makeup and characterization for film, theater and television.

Later, in 2018, the opportunity arose for me to collaborate with the Becara firm as General Manager of the opening and launch of its new space in Las Rozas. It was quite a challenge. I carried out the design, commercial and communication management for the awareness of this new space and, in turn, the coordination and implementation of decoration and interior design projects.

The idea "Aporto" was born

Inés Marugán: A year ago, I decided to create a personal project in the field of decoration, design and interior design, with painting as a nexus.

IADE: From interior design to decorative art, how did this evolution take place? Have you always been closely linked to art or was it a personal discovery?
Inés Marugán: Since I was a child, I have always felt a great fascination for beauty and aesthetics in its different artistic disciplines, and a constant interest in discovering new lines of expression.

From my first experience with art in classical ballet I learned to feel through movement and harmony. Almost since then I think that what we do and who we are defines us in our perception.

When I start a project, I believe it is presided by the emotion of the encounter with the new and unknown, which could express how I intend to understand art: "the intention of the soul to make visible the invisible".

The constant search for balance, beauty and harmony, discover me a new space where I can investigate, create and communicate. Combining shapes, textures, colors... recreating concepts, fruit of my journey and experience in other artistic disciplines, serve me as a guide to carry out my work.

This vision, within Interior Design, allows me to generate unique spaces endowed with their own light, movement and life, trying to create a harmonious space between the environment and those who inhabit it.

Spaces, like us, are alive and therefore need to change, transform and evolve.

I: Going into more detail... What is a day like in your current job? What is the main idea behind Aporto?
I.M: In my inner self, Aporto started more than five years ago as a way to escape and express my inner self. During all these years, I always found myself with the handicap of the lack of decorative painting as a fundamental part of interior design projects.

Painting is capable of creating a magical and different atmosphere that no other complement can achieve. It gives spaces their own personality.

In reality, the spaces we create are a reflection of who we are, they speak for us through codes that we do not always know how to interpret.

This is Aporto's philosophy, to create experiences and sensations through painting, where color, shape and volume play a fundamental role to achieve different and unique spaces.

I: When looking for clients, or contacting individuals, how do you do it?
I.M: Getting started is difficult. We have a lot of information and multiple options. Making yourself known is an arduous and time-consuming task. It is not only about painting, you have to be visible so that the public can get to know you and access your work, which requires a great effort and a lot of perseverance.

Personally, I prefer my professional activity to be developed close to the client. I believe that a direct relationship allows me to better capture and understand what people who are interested in my work are looking for.

I: What are your main means of diffusion?
I.M: I appear in International Marketplaces, I have my own website, and I also spread my project on Instagram and Pinterest.

I: Do you think that the circumstances experienced in the previous months will somehow affect decorative art in terms of concepts, colors?
I.M: Starting from the social imaginary in which we have been immersed in such a disruptive way, will undoubtedly have its consequences and influence.

A space is capable of generating emotions just by observing it. Psychology plays a very important role in different environments. In fact, environmental psychology studies the relationship between different types of environments and how they affect people's behavior and moods.
Color and its nuances are palpable proof of how it can influence a person's mood. Each color is associated with a different register of emotions. Hence, the importance of applying psychology in interior design, in any of its branches or aspects.

At this time, I consider it essential to take into account the experiences and personal characteristics of each client when creating a unique space. Your space! Each person will need to obtain different sensations according to their experiences in this stage of confinement.

A very present future

IADE: Do you have any personal projects in the pipeline?
Inés Marugán: At the moment, I'm preparing an exhibition as an emerging artist, at the Blanca Soto Gallery in Madrid, which will open soon.

I: What advice would you give to our students?
I.M: To fight for their dreams; to take action and trust. Experience brings confidence to face new and unknown challenges; I encourage them to experiment with their dreams!
