Ana Tafur, former IADE Fashion Design student, brings her brand SAKÉ to Madrid's Salamanca neighborhood.

October 2 2014

Ana Tafur, a former student of Fashion Design at IADE School of Design, is a restless and traveling spirit. Colombian by origin, she lived for eight years in Madrid where she trained in Fashion Design. After working for several fashion companies in 2007 she moved to Shanghai.

During the five years she lived in China, she worked for different brands where her job was to buy samples, develop the collection, produce it and sell it. She traveled a lot in Southeast Asia and fell deeply in love with the people, the colors, the sensations and became obsessed with fabrics and looms. As she tells us "After three years there I began to question many things: the processes, where the dyes come from, the chemicals, the materials, how such a massive production is developed. I saw rivers of chemical colors, which irrigate the vegetables that grow on its banks. I saw non-organic waste accumulating without any care. I was terrified.

"I have very good memories of IADE. I learned many things that I still put into practice today. It was a very complete school where I was able to learn everything I needed to get started".

The experiences and experiences working in the world of fashion in Asia, made her rethink her business and start creating SAKÉ, a brand where ancestral techniques are rescued and all processes are sustainable. "SAKÉ's designs are unique because the pieces are handmade and practically unrepeatable. The collections are created in collaboration with certain native communities that know the ancestral techniques and all materials are treated in a sustainable way, with much respect for the planet and maximum emphasis on the production process.

We have looms that are developed in communities in different areas of Peru, Ayacucho, Sacred Valley and Cajamarquilla and we also recover others from different parts of the world (Xingjian, Vietnam, Pakistan and Philippines) that are real treasures".
